Art in the Natural World: Altered Books, Sculpture, and Printmaking

July 27 - 31, 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Ages 12 – 15

Art in the Natural World: Altered Books, Sculpture, and Printmaking is designed for students ready for more independent thinking, deeper exploration, and learning to use a wider range of art materials.

Each day includes time outdoors at a local park, where students practice fieldobservation, sketching, and idea-gathering, supported by natural history and scientific context. In the studio, students experiment with altered books as a form of visual storytelling, create expressive masks inspired by modern art and world traditions, and learn the fundamentals of linocut printing.

Lessons emphasize craftsmanship, composition, design, and the connection between careful observation of the world around us and creative expression. This workshop supports creative confidence, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation of the natural world through sustained outdoor exploration and studio practice.
