Collage Creatures

Saturday, October 11; 11am – 2pm

Instructor: Ilah Jarvis

You will create fantastic collage compositions of birds and insects, with an emphasis on color and value. Using tracing techniques and stencils, you will learn to recognize values and appealing color and pattern combinations in order to create powerful compositions. The instructor will provide scissors, x-acto blades, a cutting mat, and a multitude of decorative papers. She will instruct you in the safe skills with an x-acto blade.

Students are also encouraged to bring their own images, whether pictures of beloved animals, clippings from magazines, or patterned papers.

Ilah Jarvis has taught watercolor all over Northern California for over twenty years, including at Studio One and The Richmond Art Center. She has exhibited her watercolors nationally and received a month-long residency at the Fundacion Valparaiso in Mojacar, Spain in 2003. She is a graduate of the California College of Arts (and Crafts) and is passionate about watercolor and the art making process. She encourages her students to challenge themselves creatively and to develop their own unique styles.
