Exploring the Gel Plate

Saturday, July 5; 11am to 3pm

Instructors: Catherine Cruz

Join us for a fun workshop with French-American artist Catherine Cruz and explore the art of gel plate printing. Learn to create beautiful monoprint designs on paper by using a gel plate and acrylic paint. You will take home lots of prints that can be used for creating collage, mixed media art or greeting cards. This class is suitable for anyone wanting to learn this unique monoprinting style and is perfect for beginners.

The instructor will teach you the basic skills for using this fun tool from printing textural backgrounds, to layering colors and using a variety of unexpected tools.

You will learn:

- Methods for applying paint and pulling successful prints, including magazine photo transfers

- Techniques for creating intricate layered designs

- Creative use of mark-making tools and masks

- Strategies for combining techniques

The instructor will provide a gel plate, brayer, acrylic paint and mark-making tools. A variety of papers will be provided but we encourage you to bring your own papers to experiment with.
