Explore Mixed Media Art
Sunday, August 3; 11am – 3pm
Instructor: Catherine Cruz
In this engaging workshop with French-American artist Catherine Cruz, you’ll explore the exciting world of mixed media, combining acrylic paint, markers, inks, oil pastels, and gesso to enhance your paper collages. You’ll learn how to build texture and depth by applying gesso to create unique surfaces and then layering glazes for vibrant, expressive effects.
The workshop will guide you through various techniques for creating contrast and bringing your art to life. As you experiment with these materials you will discover how to push the boundaries of traditional collage, adding dynamic marks, texture, and energy to your artwork. This class emphasizes experimentation over creating finished artworks.
You will learn:
- Methods using different types of mixed media
- Strategies for adding visual interest
- Techniques for making your art cohesive
- Skills for refining your composition
Prerequisite: You must bring your own collage artwork to work on, either on paper or on panel. Supplies provided by the instructor are acrylic paint, markers, graphite, acrylic ink, oil pastels, house paint, brushes, and tools.
