Create one-of-a-kind artful ceramic tiles
Artist Phoebe Deutsch will show you how to make ceramic tiles from scratch, exploring texture and decoration techniques. You will use foraged botanical inspiration from the local area and learn about local flora along the way. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn a new craft using heritage skills and to contribute to our communities’ eco building. Celebrate community, traditional skill, and nature.
No previous experience necessary and all tools and resources will be provided. This experience is recommended for ages 12 and up. Please note that children under 18 must be supervised (taking this class with an adult).
Phoebe Deutsch is a visual artist working primarily in sculpture, painting, and installation. Her work explores the interconnectedness of natural systems. Phoebe’s work reflects a vision of what she calls “alluring speculation”, exploring life in its transitional states. She believes the act of adaptation is the great connector between humanity and the environment. There is still much to learn about the significance of such an intricate network, and this is what inspires her artwork.
She is currently a guest lecturer at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, Northeastern University, and is a long-standing faculty member at The Crucible.
