Explore storytelling, memory, and personal expression through the creation of miniature three-dimensional works. Over the course of three sessions you will design and construct your own unique “curiosity cabinet” that will tell a story, celebrate a memory, or showcase cherished objects. These poetic small-scale worlds will be composed of imagery and objects to evoke a sense of wonder, memory, and imagination.

The instructor will give a historical overview tracing the origins and evolution of cabinets of curiosity and shadow boxes, from their beginnings in sixteenth-century Europe to their reinterpretations by artists in the twentieth century.

Small shadow box frames, glass cloches, and other materials will be provided. You will experiment with materials and techniques that invite creative risk-taking. You are encouraged to bring meaningful objects to the second session, once you know what will fit within the cabinet format you have chosen.

Ages 12 and older are welcome, and no experience is necessary.

Brianna Cutts is an artist and designer whose work explores storytelling, memory, and wonder through mixed media and three-dimensional form. With a background in exhibition design and visual storytelling, she creates immersive experiences that connect people to art, history, and imagination. Her practice often draws on the tradition of curiosity cabinets—poetic collections that invite discovery and reflection. Brianna brings this passion for narrative and design into her teaching, guiding participants to experiment, take creative risks, and shape their own stories into expressive works of art.
