Marin Sketchbook – Exploring Three Drawing Techniques

Three Saturdays, 2/21, 2/28, and 3/7; 10am to 1pm

Instructor: Kasia Apolinarski

Over the course of three sessions you will explore three drawing techniques that will inspire you to create your own unconventional images. Each session will begin with a short presentation of one of the drawing techniques, giving its history and examples of artworks. Kasia will teach the technique and you will explore downtown San Rafael to find an inspiring location to practice.

February 21 - Tonal Values

You will learn how to draw sunlight-covered rocks and plants using white crayon on black paper, inspired by images at Boyd Park.

February 28 - Value Scale

You will visit the Museum of Propaganda and learn to catch three-dimensional objects by drawing them with black and white crayons on gray paper.

March 7 – Frottage

Enhance textures in your drawings by visiting San Rafael’s downtown historical buildings by employing frottage.

You may register for one, two, or three classes.
