Ecoprinting with Paper: Color, Texture, and Background
Saturday, May 16; 10am to 4pm
Instructor: Tracy Flanagan
Create one-of-a kind artful botanical prints on paper. Using tannins, natural dyes, local foliage, heat, and water, you will experiment with mordants, iron, and tannins to create interesting backgrounds and leaf designs on paper.
You will learn to:
Collect foliage that will print on paper
Prepare paper for different artistic effects
Discover interactions between tannins and iron
Use tannins and leaves to create interesting outlines and color combinations
Upcycle and transform everyday papers.
As a textile artist, writer, and physician, Tracy believes that hand-marked fabric and cloth is ‘everyday art’ that can wrap and heal the body and spirit. Throughout her life she has rebirthed paper and cloth with thread, color, and design, as quilts, garments, and fabric collage. Using natural dye products extracted from the earth and plants, she breathes new life into these designed fiber materials.
