Imaginary Lands: Collage, Landscape, and Abstraction
Saturday, May 2; 10am – 3pm
Instructor: Erin McCluskey-Wheeler
Create an abstracted landscape collage using created and found papers. In this workshop, you will make two collages; one smaller collage will use handmade papers, and a second larger collage will use painted paper on a cradled wood panel.
You may bring in a reference photo to use in envisioning your landscape, or you can work free form and use the idea of a landscape as a jumping off point for composition and color. You will look at the ways the materials we use and the incorporation of found imagery and text into our work can tell stories about a place and make a nuanced and intriguing portrait of the land.
The instructor will provide an 11 x 14 cradled wood panel, archival glue, acrylic paint, a glue brush, and a curated collection of assorted handmade, marbled, painted, and found papers. You are also welcome to bring your own supplies. There are scissors available but you may also prefer to bring your own.
