This hands-on workshop guides you through the process of constructing a ceramic head from start to finish. Using photographic references, you’ll explore the structure of the human head and translate your observations into a hollow clay form. With a focus on building volume and clarity, you’ll develop confidence in bringing two-dimensional references into three-dimensional form. Participants are encouraged to experiment with expressive and narrative elements to create more personal sculptures.

No prior sculpting experience is necessary - all skill levels are welcome.

Phoebe Deutsch is a visual artist working primarily in sculpture, painting, and installation. Her work investigates the interconnectedness of natural systems through what she calls “alluring speculation,” exploring life in states of transition. Her practice reflects a deep interest in adaptation as a bridge between humanity and the environment. She currently teaches at California College of the Arts and Northeastern University and is a long-standing faculty member at The Crucible.
