In this 3-week class you will learn to draw using a live model with the expressive medium of charcoal. The course will cover the basics of figure drawing, general proportions, sketching and shading techniques, and strategies for approaching a longer drawing. It combines the challenge of drawing the human figure, the haptic medium of charcoal, and the sense of presence and awareness gained from drawing from life.
The class is designed for both beginners and students with experience.
Courtney Griffith is an artist and educator based in Oakland, CA. She is an instructor at De Anza College and at Richmond Art Center.
