In this workshop you will explore hands-on storytelling methods and build community through interactive zine making. Zines, short for “magazines”, are a classic medium that has been used by self-published authors and artists for generations. Guided by San Francisco-based zine maker Edie Trautwein, you will build on themes of craft, accessibility, and creativity. You will experiment with different zine folding techniques and will be given storytelling prompts to incorporate into your work. By the end of the workshop, you will know how to fold at least four different types of zines and you will receive a list of creative and community resources around Marin and the Bay Area to continue your creative journey after the workshop concludes. You will be empowered to dive in hands first, tell your unique stories, and make new friends while connecting with people who share interests on a human level.
