In this workshop you will learn the basic principles of collagraph printmaking. The instructor will give an initial overview of printmaking in general and will go into more detail regarding the technique that you will be using. You will plan and create an original collagraph on a Tetra Pak carton, a versatile and upcycled printmaking substrate. Your subject may be an object, a landscape, an abstract artwork – the possibilities are endless. You are welcome to bring an image, drawing, or photo as a point of departure for your print.
By adding materials onto the substrate surface, and carving and peeling away the top layer, you will create unique textures, lines, and shapes. You will ink your plate with a soy-based, eco-friendly ink using traditional printmaking techniques. Two presses will be available for you to use to print your image, and you will leave the session with the knowledge and practice to make your own prints and print them at home even if you don’t own a press.
